General Info
Overview of Chicago's Affordable Requirements Ordinance (ARO)
- The Affordable Requirements Ordinance (ARO) is a City policy that requires certain residential developments with 10 or more units to provide a portion of units as affordable housing. Chicago’s City Council passed the ARO in 2007 and recently updated it in April 2021.
- It is meant to help keep lower-income residents in their homes in neighborhoods undergoing gentrification.
